Here are some of my personal restaurant recommendations.

Places that I really, really like:

1) Cafe Europa -- in Harbourtown, at the base of the lighthouse. This is probably my favorite restaurant on the island. I always dine there early, because a) my kids like to see the Gregg Russell show at 8 pm and b) Harbourtown is so crowded that the only way you stand a chance of getting a parking place is to go early. Still, I think the food and service at Cafe Europa is fantastic -- I've probably been there a dozen times. The view is nice, too. They take reservations.

2) Anna's Beachside Cafe -- in Coligny Plaza. Their menu is Mediterranean influenced and it offers some creative choices, with plenty of fresh seafood to chose from. The food quality is very good with prices being quite reasonable. They are open for lunch and dinner, as well as offering takeout. I've been there at least five times.

3) CQ's -- in Harbourtown. Kinda pricey, but we had an absolutely fabulous meal there. Their menu is decidedly upscale. They offer free parking, which is a big plus at Harbourtown. Been there once, will definitely return.

4) Alexander's -- in Palmetto Dunes. I think Alexander's has really improved in the past year. During my most recent visits, I've tried some of their specials and they were outstanding. Nice continental-style menu, a good choice if someone in your party does not want seafood, but others do. Great selection of wines. Service has always been very professional and friendly. They take reservations. A big plus with Alexander's is that you can walk to dinner from our villa!

5) Charley's Crab -- in Hilton Head Plantation. This restaurant is new to island in late '99 and is part of a national chain. It's located on the water, overlooking the Port Royal Sound. They have an extensive menu and I was really impressed with the food and service.

Other places that I like:

South Seaport Cafe -- in South Beach, Sea Pines. Nice place to go for dinner, if you make the trip to South Beach. Pretty sure that they also own another place called Charleston's, which a friend of mine liked, but I have not been there myself.

Crabby Nick's -- on 278, near Palmetto Dunes. Good basic seafood house. If I just want the good ol' fried seafood platter, this is the place I go. They have a magician that goes from table to table, offering some fun entertainment while you wait.

Guiseppi's -- in Shelter Cove. Good pizza and pasta. I usually just call ahead and pick it up for a relaxing meal after a big day at the beach.

Old Fort Pub -- in Hilton Head Plantation. Really not a "pub" at all, quite upscale. Lots of interesting dishes to choose from. They have a patio for outdoor dining.

Crazy Crab -- in Harbourtown. A very popular seafood house. I think the food is fine, but the wait tends to be a bit much for me.
